If you haven't already done this, it might at least be worth asking whether/how they could fix it when you next get a checkup -- they can't make you have the work done, and at least then you'd know if it would be bearable. Though if it sticks out it's probably a question of wearing a brace, & I know that if that'd been the only option for getting this tooth done (it was a possible option, trying to drag the existing tooth down further to fill the gap) then my answer would have been NO WAY. :-/
