CamPAIN for cluefulness

A quick quiz question for you:

If you were designing the web-based user interface for a complex, multifaceted, high-profile system for tracking and reporting on all aspects of the higher education process, for use by students, supervisors and administrators at all levels, would you:
  1. ensure that there was a single clear point of access for the entire system,
  2. ensure that there was coherent and consistent branding across all possible points of access, or
  3. HAVE IT DESIGNED BY MONKEYS ON CRACK?

C. It's the way we've always done it.

c. HAVE IT DESIGNED BY MONKEYS ON CRACK?

I see you've met the web design team at work then...

Well, the industry standard seems to be c, so I'd probably go with that.

You're going to be in trouble with the Simian Anti-Defamation League ...

I'm happy to have it designed by Kate Moss on crack instead, if that option is available.

c) definatly c)

d) Slap bits of it on as I think of them, and hope for the best.

Well, I'd go for a, but hey, where I work chose c.

Monkeys on crack? Count yourself lucky. We can barely afford chipmunks on speed.

I think these crack-smoking monkeys seem like a godo start., Can we feed them intravenous mescaline and the occasional LSD-in-vodka cocktail too? Might need a healthy dose of amphetamines, so we get that proper speedy EDGE to the webshite.

a) was the way we did COMET (http://www.eng.cam.ac.uk/comet/). Unfortunately I think we're in the minority.

Hey, c'mon, you've seen what my LJ style looks like.

c) all the way here!

C) - it's cheapest, they talk the same language as the client's manager, and the display in IE looks just like the JPGs they did as proofs.

(Bitter, me?)

I'll have a C please, Bob.

The MONKEYS sound very attractive right now.

I'd take a simple, single-faceted, low-profile system that someone knocked up during a weekend, and expand it with a series of kludges that seemed to make sense at the time. When it failed to work, I'd institute a series of redesigns on the project, none of which deal with the problem completely, and each of which is abandoned half way thorough the project, having achieved sufficiently much that it's impossible to remove the extra elements added. This process would be done by a series of people who don't understand what the web-site's quite about, who enjoy using overcomplicated techniques, and none of whom communicated with each other before variously being poached, resigning or being arrested due to fraud.

Since you asked ;)

You're hired. When can you start?

I am not on crack! ;-)

(I'm assuming your talking about CamCORS.)

An infinite number of stylesheets

I have a hundred monkeys on crack in our garage you're welcome to have. They come with a 286 each so you can get your web design team up and running in no time at all.

The main problem with having them all on crack is that their critical faculty has all gone to shit, so I should really have thought that bit through more. Admittedly one of them got as far as "Now is the winter of our discontumble" before he stuck his foot in the power supply fan, but to be honest I'm thinking of packing it all in and trying something that I just thought of on the same theme, with nutrient soup and the lowest setting on the microwave.

Also, the bananas and the squealing are doing my nut.

I wasn't talking about CamCORS, no. Who are you?
