20,000 people sitting in a field

Okay, this may seem a bit premature, but I'm trying to get organised in advance so I know where I'm going to be and when:

Who is planning on going to Glastonbury this year?

It looks like people are only going to be able to buy two tickets this year (half as many as last year! in three years' time we'll only be able to buy half a ticket...), and they are DEFINITELY NON-TRANSFERABLE (just like last year, and how they propose to check I really don't know). So, the other question is:

Who is planning on buying tickets?

(Tickets go on sale at 8pm on 1st April.)

Pete & I will be going, if at all possible. I'll probably get P to buy the tickets. Note also: debit cards only, no credit cards.

Think [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth is also planning to go, but doing Welfare again.

8 *P*m? Interesting. Anyway, I should like to go, along with [livejournal.com profile] marnameow and our tent. And nothing valuable whatsoever, oh no.

8 *P*m?

That's what it says on the site. There're doing everything they can to prevent touts getting tickets, including starting the process of selling them outside office hours.

For [livejournal.com profile] j4's benefit - yup, I plan to go.

[identity profile] j4.livejournal.com 2004-02-26 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
The problem is, by doing all this to prevent touts getting tickets, they're also making it pretty hard for ordinary people to get them. :-(

Apropos of which, do you (or anybody else who's reading) have any idea how they're planning to check people don't sell their other ticket? I mean, do you have to give name, address, phone number, blood type, etc. for the person you claim to be buying the second ticket for?

[identity profile] bopeepsheep.livejournal.com 2004-02-26 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
(No, I won't be coming.)

They may simply require that the person coming in with the second ticket actually physically enters with the person whose name is on the first ticket (ie two tickets are issued with the same name on, the buyer shows ID, and no separate entry permitted). A bummer if you're planning on meeting your chosen one there, but SOP for guest lists IME.

I hope they'll accept photocopied ID if that's what they are doing... Of all the valuable things I don't want to take to Glasto, my passport & driving licence are fairly high up the list. :-/

Given the bag-being-nicked episode of last year *I* will not be taking anything like that either. A debit card *kept somewhere else in case of emergencies* is the most I'll be taking.

It's entirely possible that they're just saying it to put the evil touts off, though.

[identity profile] j4.livejournal.com 2004-02-26 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
If they're just saying it to put the touts off, then it's double-stupid. Either ordinary people will believe it and they'll be put off by it as well (Bad result) or nobody (including the touts) will believe it, and it will have no effect (null result).

Grr.

If I ran Glastonbury, I'd make people do impressions of a squirrel on acid in order to get their tickets. Best 150,000 impressions get a ticket. Simple! But these days people are afraid of merit-based systems of evaluation, neigh quack moo, on the internet nobody knows you're a badger, IS IT FRIDAY YET?

[identity profile] marnameow.livejournal.com 2004-02-26 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they're saying that they won't release details of how it's going to work until the tickets are sold so as to not let the touts plan for it. I'm a but dubious about it, too.

I wanted to get all the pixies tickets and make people take an exam (set by *me*) and write an essay and I would decide who could have tickets based on that.

I'm going to try this year.

[identity profile] j4.livejournal.com 2004-02-26 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
I tried this year, didn't like it, can I have 2003 back please?

Seriously though -- yay, cool, come to Glasto, etc. :)

Not this year - exams take priority.
