Icon-icon all day

It was lovely of [livejournal.com profile] lizzip to make me a classy music icon -- and thanks also to [livejournal.com profile] besskeloid for a cool suggestion -- but in the end I decided I wanted to make my own.

So I toyed with the idea of producing a blue-washed photo of myself à la Joni Mitchell, but couldn't be bothered trying to take new photos and couldn't find any suitable ones. I failed to produce a satisfactory Badger Mask Replica -- the idea still appeals, but all my attempts were too lame even to post here. I was briefly quite pleased with this rather generic one:

until I realised that when it was reduced to LJ-icon size the writing was so tiny as to be illegible. Finally came up with the icon you should see on this post, which is just about recognisable and, I think, just naff enough to suit me. :-)

What did the writing say? The final one is utterly brilliant, though.

What did the writing say?

"You held the world in your hands", which was a misquote of Idlewild's "you held the world in your arms" but the CD I'm holding is a CDR so it was sort of supposed to be a sort of reference to misquoting/sampling/pirating and, blah.

Impressively cryptic. Thanks for the illuminating answer!

That is brilliant.

Sorry not to see Badger Mask Replica though.

I might have another go at the badger. I suspect it needs more l337 PhotoShop skillz than I have, though!

I tried to draw you one as well. My idea was going to be a piece of musical notation (probably just a stave, a treble clef and a couple of notes), but with the note heads replaced with tiny badger faces.

(Un)fortunately, you were spared this by a combination of lack of artistic talent, the extreme hassle of importing the treble clef from my music typesetter, and the fact that I twice managed to quit the GIMP and lose everything I'd done, and the second time I decided something was trying to tell me that I should give up. Since you wanted to draw your own anyway, it's probably just as well :-)

Music typesetter? I'd've just stolen a random treble clef image from somewhere on t'internet...

It's a neat idea, though... aw, tiny badger faces. :)

I wrote a music typesetter when I was about fifteen, and revised it five years later so it didn't crash all the time. It isn't world-class, but it did mean that I had already stolen a decent set of musical symbol outlines from somewhere, so when I thought "now where can I find a treble clef" my first thought was to use the one I already had rather than Google.

(Also, being an outline description, it had the useful advantage of being able to scale conveniently to precisely the size I wanted. Unfortunately, it proved very hard to deal with the aliasing issues...)

Finally came up with the icon you should see on this post

Well, it's making me grin at least. Have a tick & a gold star.

Thanks, Miss! :)

I like it a lot; but then, I like a lot of things that go through naff and out the other side, Einsteinian like..

While we're opn new icons, how does this one look on me ?
