I wonder if you can mix All-Bran with Bovril to create a tasty low-fat high-fibre snacky soup experience? There's no punchline here, I'm just bored.

(And when she got there, the cupboard was full of tea.)

You could, though I would bet it would taste like bobbins.

[identity profile] hoiho.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
...but beefy bobbins!

[identity profile] j4.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Bovril does not, on the other hand, mix well with keyboards.

For values of 'beefy' that no longer ... sob ... include beef.

(Which is why I now buy proper Tesco Beefy.)

Yebbut, at least I'd know, then, wouldn't I.

"Bobbins" is such a good word. Other good words I have been reminded of which today are "hyperbole", "crack", and "eleven" OH GOD I AM CHEWING MY OWN ARM OFF WITH FRUSTRATION AND BOREDOM HERE PLS SEND BADGERS.

[identity profile] rgl.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hyperbole is absolutely the best thing ever.

SQUEE BADGER!

Actually those are a really good selection. I love the woodcut-like one, and the last one is officially today's CUTEST THING EVER WANT WANT WANT. :-) Thank you!

[identity profile] bibliogirl.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad to be of service ;) (There are more woodcut-like ones where I got that from, I'll happily grab 'em if you like)

bobbins.com (http://www.bobbins.com/) claims to have the "best resources on the net". It's almost ironic. bobbins.org (http://www.bobbins.org/) was excellent and I have a horrible feeling I am going to be sucked into re-reading ALL of it.

"The thing that really gets you about war isn't the brutality.
It's having to wear the same underpants every tupping day for
five years."

[identity profile] j4.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's time for a revival of the word "tupping", I think. :-)

[identity profile] burkesworks.livejournal.com 2005-09-22 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
A fine Yorkshire word it is too. Much used by the great Jake Thackray when singing about his Bantam Cock.

Badger! (Thanks!)

To cut out and keep.
I'd send you the original photo, if only I could find it.

Badgers: here (http://www.flickr.com/groups/badgers/pool/).

Scary badgers! Fat badgers! Baaaaaby badger! (...on page two.)

Also: bobbins (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/bobbins/)!

[identity profile] j4.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
HUNDREDS of badgers! Fantastic! *perk* Thank you!

[identity profile] camellia-uk.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
did I already send you this badger (http://www.lancs.ac.uk/~mcknight/badger.jpg)? The poem is so cute, if a little hard to read:

The badger does no harm at all
But kills whole hosts of vermin
If in your way he chance to fall
To spare him, sir, determine.

If you've already got that one I'll try to find another :-)

[identity profile] j4.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's great! If you actually have the original of that I'd love to try to get a scan that shows the poem a bit clearer, so I can put it up on my website. (I really need to redo the badgers bit of my site. And, um, all the rest of it. Ho hum.)

[identity profile] camellia-uk.livejournal.com 2005-09-21 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly I don't, it was going on ebay a while back but I didn't win it (can't remember if I got sniped or forgot to check it or what), and annoyingly haven't been able to find it anywhere since. Didn't realise it was that rare at the time.

They do have a rather cute mousemat (http://tinyurl.com/7c3vy) though... you've probably got mousemats coming out of your ears but you might want to pinch the picture :-)
