Bobbins

Lots of bits and bobbins.

  • There was a gentleman at the Calling last night wearing an incongrously white T-shirt which read "MASSEY BEERFEST". [livejournal.com profile] addedentry, just thought you might like to know this.

  • Went to sleep with a headache, woke up with a headache. Had horrible dream where [livejournal.com profile] lnr was trying to phone me but I couldn't hear her properly on my mobile, I could just tell that she was really upset, and I was trying to call her from a landline instead but there were people using all the phones, and ... lots of anxiety stuff. Still have a headache now.

  • I really, really need to do a clothes-wash or six. Have reached the stage where I'm wearing velvet knickers because they're the only ones still clean.

  • Interview-questions: I answered [livejournal.com profile] marnameow's questions yesterday, but then went to submit them and bastard LJ web bollocks went and lost the whole lot. Am rewriting at home in text editor. I've written questions for [livejournal.com profile] simonb, [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel and [livejournal.com profile] hoiho, but no idea if they've seen them -- questions appear in response to the comment where you asked for questions. Other sets still to answer: from [livejournal.com profile] addedentry and [livejournal.com profile] jiggery_pokery; other sets still to write: for [livejournal.com profile] daneel_olivaw, [livejournal.com profile] ewx, [livejournal.com profile] jiggery_pokery, [livejournal.com profile] bopeepsheep, [livejournal.com profile] brrm... did I forget anyone?

  • Pay-day this month is just after Glastonbury starts. Which means I'm going to have trouble getting out as much cash as I need (I do not want to have to use the cash-machines at the festival). Will probably have to borrow money from the joint account or something.

  • We have a kitchen floor! They laid it yesterday. The kitchen now looks mostly finished, all the units are in place (though there are still a couple of handles to be fixed on, bits and pieces like that). The main thing that makes it look not-quite-finished is that there's still an obvious space wherein you can see the feet that the units are standing on, and you can see the edge of the flooring. So I'm just hoping that...
... someday my plinths will come.

Half-day today, so it's hometime already. Hurrah.

Interview-questions

How do you think of so many questions for people? I'm finding answering them very interesting, although I've not had many to respond to. when it comes to thinking of questions for other people, I'm quite stuck.

1. Would you like a hidden fortress, a public palace, a nightspot/pub, a park, or some other type of construction that you either owned or that people associated with you?

2. If you could only choose one, would you prefer to be seen, heard or read?

3. What do you understand by the nature of budo, and do you have the budo nature?

4. The personality quiz has you marked as a linguistic thinker - do you have a narrative following your life, or are the words more abstract? If a narrative, does it refer to you in the first or third person? I tend not to think in words, so I'm curious...

5. If you couldn't use variables (moo, blergh, foo, ecky ecky ecky p'tang p'tang NI!) in your speech, what sort of impact would that have?

Just to add: You have a fair number of question sets still to write, so while I'd be interested to receive some, please don't feel obligated.

kitchen now looks mostly finished

I keep getting the weird feeling looking at it from the other end of the corridor that it's like the door leads into a different house.

Do you want some questions, btw? I have some half-formulated, thanks to an odd dream in which I was in a TV studio with Jeremy Paxman and Sir Robin Day, all three of us trying to get Mr Rochester to sit still and answer some serious questions about Antoinette Cosway/Bertha Mason. (And I haven't even reread Wide Sargasso Sea or The Eyre Affair lately.) Not that I'm saying you're Mr Rochester...

If you've got some questions for me, please do pass them on; but don't feel obliged to write any. And (as I've told everybody) I'm unlikely to get round to answering them any time soon!

[identity profile] bopeepsheep.livejournal.com 2003-06-12 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well, since I sort of had them anyway...

1. Without any quack-moo, can you tell me what you honestly think about LitCrit? How has Real Life changed your views, if at all, of literature and the academic study of same?
2. Is there anything in Middlemarch that would make it worth my while having one more go at it?
3. Sacrifice: poly lifestyle, a talent (specify), or all (real and cuddly) badgers?
4. Joey Bettany, Darrell Rivers, Nancy Blackett, or Polly (Fire and Hemlock?
5. If you had to live in a fictional world, which would you pick? Why?

Velvet knickers! Wow!

[identity profile] j4.livejournal.com 2003-06-12 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
They're too tight, though, and too hot in this weather, and they showed over the top of my trousers because they've got a really high waist. I bought some new knickers yesterday (having finally discovered a cheap clothes shop in Cambridge -- hurrah!) which are more suitable for summer (lacy black thongs), but I really must do some washing rather than just buying more clothes...

[identity profile] k425.livejournal.com 2003-06-15 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
I love thongs. Despite the bump, I am still wearing my thongs, and will wear them as long as I can.

Have you managed to do some laundry yet?

Sorry, busybusy and not overly well this past couple of days, hadn't seen those questions, will check for them later today.

Would it be too Pavlovian of me to ask what colour velvet knickers ?

And kudos for lovely pun set-up. I like it.

Sorry, busybusy and not overly well this past couple of days, hadn't seen those questions, will check for them later today.

And indeed I see you've seen and answered them. Thank you -- interesting answers!

Would it be too Pavlovian of me to ask what colour velvet knickers ?

Black, of course. (There are other colours?)

And kudos for lovely pun set-up. I like it.

<g> It's about the only opportunity I'll ever have in my life to use that phrase in context; I couldn't let it go to waste!
