Inventory

>inv

You have:

1 CV which is too crap to use
1 CV which is too long to use
0 CVs suitable to send in to temp agency
0 finished job applications
1 splitting headache

You feel that you are about to burst into tears.

> quit

You don't seem to be able to do that.

> wait

Time passes.

Update: And now my printer is terminally buggered, so I can't apply for anything unless they'll let me send applications online. I don't suppose anybody has a spare USB printer that they're willing to let me "buy" now and pay them when I've actually got a job...?

mail them the longer CV - it's better than being too terse. And *either* are better than nothing.

I cut down my CV when i was looking for work last year, only to be told by various agencies that I should bulk it back up again and include more detail.

You may well not appreciate this and you certainly don't have to use it, but what do you think of this (http://www.dickson.demon.co.uk/janet-cv.doc)?

It's all a matter of opinion and I don't have a good track record on these matters, so if you feel "thanks, but I hate it and I prefer my version" then that's perfectly fine. :-)

Actually... that looks very similar to what I came up with eventually last night. So I probably will use mine (because it's already on the HD whereas I'd have to download yours -- yes, I am Queen of Laziness), but it's really reassuring to know that somebody else arrived at the same format independently. Thank you!

Good result. Yours will inherently be more to your taste than mine, which defines better. I hope it brings you success and contentment!

you could always "borrow" mine that i haven't yet got around to setting up ...

Ooh! Mind you, if you're going to need it in the near future it's probably a bad idea... I basically need something I can hang on to until I've got a job. And that might be aeons. :-/

I wonder what it says about me that this seemed a perfectly logical and normal entry. ;)

Sorry to hear about said trials and tribulations.

<g> Hey, I was playing adventure games on the Apple ][ at the age of 3. To me, this is normality.

I have an Epson Stylus Scan 2000 you could have on permenant loan. The scanner doesn't work, but it prints fine.

Ooh! If you're not likely to need it any time soon, that would be fantastic...

Gandalf turns you into a newt

I think my printer (which is a bit but not completely broken) has a parallel port and no USB. It's also in the wrong place.

Handy. Thanks. :)

I've already got one slightly-broken DeskJet which belonged to my old Mac. I suppose in an emergency I could convert my CV to Word 5 format (the best that Word's ever been, actually) and use the broken with one of the 64k Macs, but... ugh.

Actually, I've got two old Apple ][ dot-matrix printers as well, which I used to use with the Mac SE/30, for printing my essays at Oxford. But I refuse to send in CVs on fanfold. 8-)

Another mad alternative would be to see if either the DeskJet or the photo printer can be made to work with thunder and expose it over AppleTalk.

Nah, scratch that. The DeskJet is very much an Apple-specific beast, and I can't find anything suggesting that the photo printer will work with anything other than a Windows machine. OTOH, I could buy a cheap laser printer and make that available to the network....
