Sorry to everybody who was hoping I'd contact them (or hoping to be able to contact me) by SMS at Glastonbury -- I took my old phone, having charged it up beforehand, but a) I didn't manage to transfer all the numbers I needed from one phone to the other, and b) I hadn't used the old phone for a while and it seems the battery life is shot to hell, it started behaving unpredictably (claiming it had gone from empty to half-full and back again between power-cycles) on Friday and was completely dead by Saturday. :-( And I'm afraid I just couldn't face the 2-hour queue for the phone-recharging tent.

Especially sorry I didn't see acronym or brrm at all -- I think I managed to bump into most other people somewhere along the way if only briefly.

Will write up properly when I have time. [Executive summary: good music, too much mud.]

Did you wear your dress in the end?

My phone went keeloversplat a couple of times as well, & I seem to have missed out on meeting up with all sorts of people, bah... but it seems that everyone had fun, so that's OK :-)

No, I didn't wear it -- would have been happy to trail it through dust/grass but couldn't bear to drag it through all that sticky mud. :-(

Maybe next year, not sure I'll be going. (Partly depends on the weather -- I don't think I'd want to do the mud thing again to be honest!)

In the meantime we do live in the same city... :-)

I know what you mean about the mud. I know Richard's very ambivalent overall about going again after mud and blisters making Sunday a complete wash-out for him. I think by and large it was still very much worth it for me, which makes me more keen to keep going. Definitely finding waterproof trousers before the next one though.

Camping in earshot of the Pyramid was good, since it meant you could go hide somewhere clean and dry and not feel like you were completely wasting your time being there.

That's a shame! Perhaps we should dress up for the folk festival if the weather's nicer?

Oh I don't think it was a complete washout, it was just so much effort getting from A to B that I missed a lot of stuff I'd've otherwise wandered along to. Harder to see bits of gigs on different stages when it takes 20 minutes to get across one field. And I just got so knackered not really being able to sit down anywhere. :-( Got a few blisters but they were from my sandals (during the one day of sunshine) not my wellies! -- and I find blisters are generally okay if I stick enough plasters over them before they burst.

I hate the way waterproofs get all sweaty, tights were the answer for me -- they're not too hot, not too cool, more or less disposable, and they look better than waterproofs. A good use for my knackered fishnets at last! And I bought a silly short tutu-like skirt that didn't trail in the mud, to wear with the tights. Okay so I looked daft but who cares. :)

Camping in earshot of the Pyramid -- hmmm, I suppose it has its advantages, but didn't it also mean being closer to all the lager-swilling Oasis fans?

Next year (if I go) I'm going to go on Wednesday morning and camp in the tiny bit between the Stone Circle and the Greenfields... :-)

I wore the djelaba some of the time (Friday), and a shiny sparkly green skirt most of the rest of the time, with an embroidered beanie or a BFO hat.

Is that the Dragon Field? I was pointed in that direction by acronym at about 3am on Monday morning because I was looking for a source of Music With Beat and he was staying up all night because an unofficial doof being held there meant he wouldn't get any sleep even if he tried.

Glad you enjoyed the music, though.

Oh, the map (http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/INFO/siteplan.html) appears to have reverted to Glastonbury 2002 for some reason. And the campsites' names don't seem to be marked. Ho hum.

The one I'm thinking of doesn't, IIRC, is quite nice and peaceful. Though I suppose it may turn into Music With Beat late at night -- if so perhaps I won't head over there after all! I am a girly wuss, or rather I like to retain the option of sleep even if I choose not to take it...

Oh, no, it was a good reason for not wearing it, and TBH the crowd shots were so fast that even if you'd been wearing the dress we'd just have seen a glimpse of white.

I thought a beanie was basically a bobble/woolly hat. In fact, my Australian housemate, a speech therapist, marked someone down following a stroke because she showed him a picture of a bobble hat and asked what it was called. Naturally he said "bobble hat". When she got home that day she asked what we called it. We said "well, it's a bobble hat. What else would you call it?". We'd never heard of a beanie. She'd never heard of a bobble hat.

What a difference 15 years makes in a language!
