Date: 2004-09-15 08:40 am (UTC)Treat you, and two friends of your choice, to a leisurely meal in the kind of place where they don't mind you taking three or four hours from the aperitifs to the port and brandy. Failing that, Carluccio's will do, if you can cope with Bitter Chocolate Ice Cream and strawberry.
One day, someone's going to take me up on this.

Date: 2004-09-15 09:28 am (UTC)Eeek. Look, I'm 5'1-and-a-bit": nobody looks up to me unless they're sitting down. :)
But seriously. That sounds like a great idea. And hopefully you'd challenge deeply ingrained assumptions etc. of mine as well -- only fair, after all.
(FWIW I don't think you've ever come across as patronizing or insulting to me!)

Date: 2004-09-15 09:30 am (UTC)My suggestion (in your journal) of meeting and hugs now seems so simple and naive. I can only hope you think it was cleverly deliberate artlessness. :)

Date: 2004-09-15 09:31 am (UTC)The porcupine in question sits up a tree, staring into space; blinks occasionally, so one can tell it's still alive, and evn more occasionally moves its head. First time I was there with my team, my database curator took one look at it and said "It's designing a database." I knew that my most intense moments of work can sometimes look as though I'm staring into space thinking "Want doughnut now", but not that it had made that much of an impression on my team.
Oh well. Whenever it does come down out of the design high it's going to have something really amazing to show us.

Date: 2004-09-15 09:37 am (UTC)Gosh, I want to be a fly on the wall for that. I hope it doesn't come across as patronising to say that knowing both of you as I do I'd love to see how you spark off each other.

Date: 2004-09-15 09:45 am (UTC)And, I'd adore a game a M** some time. I've not played it in years.
(Oh, and as an aside - I've been doing some spring-cleaning around here, and I've managed to find a bag of stuff that belongs to you. A big pile of post from Hack, a Japanese-style folding hanging thing, a purse and a pile of brightly-coloured magnetic letters. It kind of got left with me when Hack broke up, got buried and survived a house moving since then. Oops. Do you want me to forward it on to you?)

Date: 2004-09-15 10:08 am (UTC)What's the purse look like? I can't think of any that I don't know where they are...

Date: 2004-09-15 10:30 am (UTC)I've taken the liberty of throwing away the obvious junk mail; 4 year old junk mail is of no use to anyone.
I'll post it on; as the original plan was for me to give it to you the next time I saw you (which has clearly failed...), it's simplest if I ensure it gets done now.

Date: 2004-09-15 10:32 am (UTC)And thanks for throwing away the junk mail -- I have plenty enough here! :-)
The problem with "the next time you see me" is that we never seem to know in advance when we're going to turn up to the same parties. Clearly the answer is to organise a party. Preferably involving the Chairman's Game, and sausages, and BOOZE.

Date: 2004-09-15 10:42 am (UTC)You're on. Your place or mine?
(The problem with my place is that aren't many M** players round here anymore, although there are probably some of them still around, I've just fallen out of contact with a fair few of them.)
