she got into an unlicensed taxi - a case of someone potentially not checking the car out for taxi markings. Given that it was NYE its likely that alcohol and a desire to get back to where she was staying for the night played a part in this decision.

I deliberately didn't say this because I didn't want to give the impression that it was All Her Own Fault rather than, say, the fault of the guy who impersonated a taxi driver in order to abduct and murder a young woman.

And yes, if you're taking a taxi from the centre of town late at night it's highly likely that you will want to get back to where you're staying the night, whether it's NYE or not. And there's been very little information released AFAICT about just how like a taxi this car actually looked -- for example, sober or otherwise, do you always check that the taxi licence plate matches the car licence plate every time you get into a taxi? I know I don't.
