Insert coherent thought here. I think the point was that if something bothers you, whether it's something everyone notices or something only you can see (c.f. my gap, which bothered me a lot despite two comments in this thread alone to the effect that no one else ever even noticed it), you should be careful not to let it take over (not smiling in photos, worrying about teeth, never inviting anyone over etc). Which you knew anyway but I wanted to make the point about living-room-hoovering being just as potentially (unnecessarily) life-altering.
