Feeling very sick and ill today

Wish I knew what was wrong with my stomach. Been feeling sick since Sunday, and it seems to get worse after I eat anything. On Sunday I was ill as a result of drinking too much on Saturday night, but I can't still be suffering from the effects of a hangover, surely? ... And besides, I've had this kind of stomach pain before when no alcohol was involved.

I've been to doctors about it before but they just say "it's a stomach bug, now sod off" or words to that effect.

Just sick and tired of feeling ill all the time. :-( And not looking forward to trying to do an interview in two hours' time, since I have a choice between being so hungry that my stomach's rumbling audibly, or risking being doubled up in pain, neither of which looks good to prospective employers.

You could try some dry bread or crackers? It's about as inoffensive as you can get, I think, and might stave off loud rumblings without causing you pain?

Doctors is crap, I currently think.

I don't have any dry bread or crackers in work... had a ginger nut which has made me feel ill again but it's only a small biscuit so hopefully the effects will have quietened down by the time I do the interview.

Lovely [livejournal.com profile] brrm has volunteered to make me TOAST afterwards though, before we go and play with cars. And toast should be safe, unless it's wheat that's making me feel icky... don't want to go down that road though. :-(

Bad stomach. No biscuit.

I hope that its not wheat which is causing you to be icky - when it comes down to it, the whole wheat allergy thing is a lot more hassle than anything else I impose on the food I eat (veggie, S/W, etc).

Good luck for your interview.

can you get to a chemists that does kaolin and morphine ? i find that a couple of teaspoons of that can quell stomach cramps for two or three hours, even when i'm feeling really pretty dreadful, and that'd be enough to survive the interview ...

Isn't that what they give people for diarrhoea? ... Can't really get to a chemist easily before the interview anyway unfortunately. :-( Can't leave work till 12 and I need to leave as much time as possible to find my way to Longstanton (need to be there by 12:45).

(The journey there is worrying me more than the interview to be honest. I have no sense of direction and will doubtless get hideously lost.)

Mild dose of gastric flu? It's been going round here, anyway (I had it a few weeks ago - one day of feeling *really* dreadful, one day of feeling quite bad, a further 2 or 3 of not being able to eat without feeling sick).

Tomato soup is also good for delicate stomachs, I find.

good luck for interview! *hugs*

Gastric flu? Hard to tell really, as the day of feeling really dreadful was definitely largely hangover-related. And I've had the current level of feeling sick (made worse by eating) before, several times, without the feeling really bad before it.

Run out of time to get any lunch now anyway. :-(

Checking a little too late, I hope your interview went well. :-)

Peppermint oil. Or just mints.

I've had that sick-thing before as well, in my case it's usually been triggered either by a hangover (as though I never quite got better from the hangover), or by a massive over-indulgence of too-rich food. The doc said it was just "one of those things" but did give me one useful piece of advice: Gaviscon helps. Take it after every meal and snack. It really helped me. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the advice, might try that one next time.

I do sometimes wonder if all vaguely-stomach-ish medicines are actually just the same thing, though. I get the impression that doctors can't really tell what's going on in the stomach very easily, so they just throw standard remedies at it in the hope that it will draw out the black humours, or whatever.

I've got a stomach medicine thing at home which is basically chalky liquid (about the consistency of cornflour in water) that tastes of peppermint and contains chloroform. Chloroform, for heaven's sakes! Tastes good, though. Minty. Mmmm.

I think Gaviscon is a bit different from the others (certainly a lot of the preggos I know swear by it when Rennies etc don't work!) because it is actually gloopy enough to coat the oesophagus as well as being acid-neutralising.

Chloroform sounds very bizarre as an ingredient... make sure not to sniff too hard as you open the bottle!
