I figure that if [livejournal.com profile] hatmandu does it, it can't be too uncool:

1. Elaborate on your default icon.

It's a jaffa orange. A long time ago in another place, or in fact, this place (but for the passing of water which lies under bridges of sighs that implies that you can't cross the same fingers twice) I chose the nickname 'fruitcake' on irc. Lazy typists and tab-incompleters requested me to choose a shorter nick, so, racking my brains for another cake, I chose 'jaffa'. The choice was also inspired by the fact that my mum used to call me "Jayfer", as in "J for", as in "Janet", do you see, DO YOU SEE, which sounds a bit like "jaffa", DO YOU... yes, anyway.

I keep wondering about changing the default to my badger icon, which is a photo of Quincey the badger.

2. What's your current relationship status?

Hit points: 57
Experience: 2007

Strength: 16
Dexterity: 7
Intelligence: 12
Wisdom: 12
Charisma: 15

Class: middle
Alignment: Left
Race: Egg & spoon

3. Ever have a near-death experience?

Isn't it called "being alive"?

4. Name an obvious quality you have.

I'm short (5'1-and-a-bit"). This is less obvious online, where it becomes more obvious that I'm a habitual quibbler, pathologically incapable of attempting to remove imagined ambiguities.

5. What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?

When I originally started writing this, for some reason best known to my subconscious, it was "Harvest for the World" by, er, probably not the Isley Brothers, but rather whoever covered it in the 1990s. Unless that was them re-releasing it, or something. I have no idea why this got stuck in my head, since I hadn't heard it recently, but I'm in danger of getting it stuck there again now.

6. Name a celebrity you would marry.

Any celebrity whom I'd been with for long enough to be convinced that I'd be happy spending the rest of my life with them.

7. Who will cut and paste this first?

Whoever is most bored.

8. Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity?

Not as far as I can remember. That face recognition thing which was doing the rounds a few months ago said I looked like Douglas Fairbanks.

9. Do you wear a watch? What kind?

Not usually. I used to have a lovely clockwork watch but it has become increasingly unreliable despite two expensive attempts to get it fixed. (Both 'fixes' cost about £50. The watch originally cost me £5 from a flea-market.) I do still wear it sometimes -- it seems to be okay if I let it 'rest' between windings -- but mostly I just use my phone to tell me the time.

10. Do you have anything pierced?

Ears (twice). Boring. I got them pierced for the first time when I was 16, having argued my parents down from a minimum piercing age of 18 despite my dad's insistence that "only tarts have their ears pierced"; then got them done again in my first term at university, almost as a matter of principle (pointless, unlike the piercing machine, ho ho).

11. Do you have any tattoos?

No.

12. Do you like pain?

Depends.

13. Do you like to shop?

Yes, yes, yes. Partly because I just enjoy looking at stuff, and partly because I get some kind of satisfaction out of increasing my awareness of what's available and where (and for how much). I know that if somebody asks me "Where can you get [x]?" then I stand a good chance of being able to give them useful information; and when I need to buy something I probably already know where to look for the nearest/quickest/best/cheapest option. And I like finding and buying cool things for other people. It's fun.

14. What was the last thing you paid for with cash?

The bus fare this morning (£2.40 for a return from Botley to town centre). Oh, no, [livejournal.com profile] addedentry paid for that. In which case, a pint of White Horse 'Black Horse' Porter from the Turf, last night. Mmmm.

15. What was the last thing you paid for with your credit card?

With my debit card: lunch (cheese and sweetcorn pitta, can of cherry 7Up), the Guardian, and a bottle of cough mixture.

I can't remember the last time I bought anything with a credit card. Probably something on eBay, before I switched my PayPal account from credit card to debit card.

16. Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone?

Somebody from City University who wanted their boss's password resetting.

17. What is on your desktop background?

A picture of the seaside with badger.

18. What is the background on your cell phone?

Um... whatever Nokia put there, I think. Blue?

19. What was the last movie you watched?

Casino Royale (I don't go to the movies much). Daniel Craig makes quite a rugged Bond, but looks disturbingly like Will Self from some angles. Can you imagine Will Self playing James Bond? Bet you can now, whether you like it or not. Enjoy!

20. What was the last book you read?

A Bayard from Bengal, by F. Anstey. This book was in the Oxfam bin (several months ago) and begging to be taken home, so I took pity on it. It's funny in parts (mostly the parts where it intends to be funny, too).

[My reading list]

Yes, I know I haven't posted my New Year's Resolutions yet. I'm sort of road-testing them first.
