j4: (books)
[personal profile] j4
I have acquired a bunch of books I don't really want:

  • Alfred Sheinwold, "Bridge Play for Beginners"
  • Rixi Markus, "Aces and Places: the international bridge circuit"
  • Tony & Rhoda Lederer: "Learn Bridge with the Lederers"
  • Terence Reese: "Precision Bidding and Precision Play"
  • Roderick Watson & Martin Gray, "The Penguin Book of the Bicycle"

  • Max Jones & John Chilton: "Louis: The Louis Armstrong Story 1900-1971"

  • A stack of 21 "Falcon" pamphlets about various aspects of Christianity: includes "How to Enjoy the Prayer Book", "Science and Irreligion", "Parochial Patronage", "Introducing the Church Assembly", "Christian Ministry", "Thinking Towards Confirmation", etc. -- full list available on request.
  • George Lucas: "Star Wars"
  • James Kahn: "Return of the Jedi"

All in fairly tatty condition but still readable. Comment here or email me if you want any of them.

(Sorry about the formatting, LJ does weird things with lists & I'm not sure why...)

Sold to the lady with the pink hair! :-)

I'm not doing anything today if you want to come and pick them up, or I'll come round there, whichever. SMS and let me know... Otherwise I'll just hang on to them till I see you next.

Sorry, I've spent most of the day away from the computer... Will arrange something later in the week.

Um, I've got a kettle sitting around that [livejournal.com profile] ewxs said ages ago that he wanted, and I've forgotten every time I've been round to yours since. I don't know if the something being arranged can include it....

ah well in that case I won't do a "well I might learn one day" bid.
We've run out of bookcases anyway.

how old are the Christian pamphlets? Are they beginner level Christianity, or more in-depth?

Early 1960s. No idea what level you'd describe them as, but they're very slim (< 20 pages) pamphlets so I doubt if they're going to be great in-depth academic studies. I also suspect they're unlikely to be any use for converting the heathens ...

Would the bike book be a 'how to stop your bike from falling to pieces' sort of thing? If so, I'll swap it for a lemon drizzle cake.

I don't know why I didn't reply to this at the time, or why I just remembered it now, but ... um, anyway, I think it's sort of general stuff about bicycles including history, maintenance, policy, etc. All sorts of stuff. Do you still want it? It's FREE and FOR NO MONEY so I could just UMS it to you anyway & if you decide you don't want it you can give it to somebody else. :)

Sorry I didn't reply to your reply, narrowboats took over my life... yes, if you still have the book I would like it. It might encourage me to maintain my bike, instead of just riding it until I can no longer ignore the risk that it will disintegrate in the middle of East Road, and then buying a new one.

If you want to use lists in LJ entries it's better to give it preformatted HTML - use the "don't auto-format" option. Otherwise it sticks a <br> wherever you use a newline.

I know the first, and believe the second, of the Star Wars books were actually written by Alan Dean Foster. Despite this not being what they say on the cover.
