Nah, it's good because it means you can respond to the poster while still having an idea of what the thread/original poster was on about. I don't know about you but these days I have a memory like a holey thing so that's useful.
But (a) you have to go on to "more options..." if you want a non-default picture or anything and (b) it re-introduces the stupid "prefix the subject with Re:" bug. Not sure the extra prodding-at-the-user-interface is worth it.
But if you ignore the RE: box you don't end up with a blank subject line, so it doesn't annoy me that much. It would annoy me if you got blank RE: line in my post.
