It's *ages* since we've hosted a party, so we're having one on the evening of

Saturday 30th October

which I think means we get an extra hour. Daylight saving confuses me. There will be cake. Bring bottles, badgers, partners, whatever.

Please dress.

I add:

Daylight saving confuses me too. But I can do cake!

I suppose theoretically it's a Hallowe'en party, but, like, a day early, and we don't really celebrate Hallowe'en, so, um. There's no dress code, but some people are sad old goffs like me will probably dress up. :-)

Time is party o'clock. Give us a shout if you're planning to come early: it's fine, but you will be roped into tidying/baking/etc.

Crashspace is probably available; again, let us know.

[livejournal.com profile] sion_a prefers me not to post our address on LJ, so if you don't know our address, or you need directions, email me.

Please dress.

Awww...

Come to think of it, you've not even seen my silks, which I got in the first year I was here. [ Red phoenixes and dragons on black silk trousers and a top with those little knot-and-tie things instead of buttons, and a black-on-black long kimono with a scarlet lining and huge billowy sleeves fit for stashing all kinds of goodies in. Usually worn with my dragon hairclasp and my mostly-haematite [livejournal.com profile] elisem necklace, Charm School. ]

Awww...

It seems the fairer option: to the best of my knowledge none of the attendees will be offended or upset by people being clothed, while some might be offended and/or upset by people being unclothed.

Actually, I'm not too keen on the idea of people wandering around naked at my parties, but that may just be because I'm choosy about whose unclothed bodies I'd want to see.

The silks sound utterly gorgeous, though!

mmm, I fear I'm promised to Northampton that night, or something. It strikes the fear into me as a date, anyway.

You're just scared of all the badgers. :)

Would love to, but I'm in Leicester that weekend, and doubtless we'll be having a bit of a do there. Have a gothtastic badgerific time.

At this rate it's going to be just me and the badgers! I'll have to dress them all up as goths. :)

Yes, you can dress the invisible badgers up as goths and then spend the evening talking to them. Nothing wrong with that.

I will probably be in bed, because I am a grumpy old bastard who hates parties.

No, no, these are visible badgers. If you don't believe me, you'll just have to come and see them for yourself! (Please!)

Nah, the only parties I like are ones with jelly and ice-cream and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey's-eyeball. You get an extra hour's sleep when the clocks go loopy in the autumn, and an hour's sleep taken away in the spring, I remember this because of a geology field trip to the Isle of Arran where I had to get up at "six" o'clock (i.e. five o'clock really) to go and look at some igneous rocks.

Oh man! Just a few hours ago some of my Oxford pals announced a party, on exactly the same evening, with exactly the same theme (or lack thereof), and I said I might go! Hmm, can I tell myself that this party of yours should take precedence due to its superior badger quotient?

Send those other friends of yours a nice little note pleading off due to a subsequent engagement ?

superior badger quotient

There will be over 15 badgers! And cake!

Seriously, it'd be lovely to see you if you can come, but if you can't, well, I'll just have to throw more parties. Or come and descend on you with armfuls of badgers and cake. :-)

I'm actually quite tempted to come to Cambridge instead now, after all meeting new people is better than just hanging round with the same old ones, isn't it?

(Or could it just be that [livejournal.com profile] addedentry has said he might be there and I'm a hopeless groupie? I couldn't possibly say...)

Date: 2004-10-20 03:52 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] addedentry.livejournal.com
These two reasons contradict each other!

Sometimes when you meet the same old people in the right circumstances, they become new to you.

Indeed - in London you may adopt the demeanour of a mild-mannered assistant librarian, but I suspect that in Cambridge I will find you entirely encased in rubber spanking people with a table tennis racquet. It seems to bring that sort of thing out in one.

Oh, argh, I'd forgotten about Whitby! Obviously I'm not a sad enough old goff...

It's a shame you can't come; but also I now wonder how many other people will be similarly pre-booked, & whether it was actually a Bad Idea to try to have a party on Whitby weekend. Urgh. Damn.

I doubt that *that* many people will be going to Whitby, surely? Suspect party will still be plenty enough full :-) Though I'm sorry to be missing it!

(though tbh even if it wasn't that weekend I likely wouldn't be able to come - due to House prospects, Pete & I are not committing ourselves to anything involving leaving London that we've not already booked atm. We are hoping to spend most weekends, & indeed probably most evenings, in November/December in paintbrush-wielding mode... [thumbs crossed]).

I'm going to be in Oxfnord during the day, so I'm not quite sure when I'll be back - if not too disastrously late, I'll try and turn up...

Since everybody else is stating where else they'll be, I'd just like to say I'll be in Montpellier. On expenses.

I'm not at all sorry :-)

<grin> Okay, you're excused. Even I would have to admit that being paid to go to Montpelier beats cake and badgers into the proverbial cocked hat! You will be missed, though.

How unfashionable would it be for me to buck the trend and be in Cambridge that night?

My head is spinning

Date: 2004-10-19 04:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] j4.livejournal.com
Desperately! Your in-crowd cred would never recover. ... On the other hand, perhaps it's not so much unfashionable as very, very indie: it's all a question of spin.

... and it's you, girl, making it spin

Hmmm. House is normally non-smoking, but then the vaporiser isn't really smoking, is it... I'll see what [livejournal.com profile] sion_a says. :)

Glad you can make it anyway with or without accessories!

I'd love to be there, but I'm not sure that my current level of sociability is up to it, all things considered.

But, then again, it is 5 days away so things might well change, fickle gadfly that I am.

I'm sorry I saw this too late to reply usefully. But for future reference I wouldn't've advertised the party in a public post if there'd been people in my readership who knew my address but weren't welcome...
