As per earlier warning, we're having a housewarming party on Saturday January 27th. That's this Saturday, from, ooh, about party o'clock.

Partners/children/friends welcome. There will be some drinks but mostly Weird Shit From The Back Of The Cupboard so if you want to guarantee that a sane drink will be available you're probably best bringing it yourself. There will be nibbles and (if I have time to bake it) cake, and in case of Munchies Emergencies the Co-op is about 30 seconds' walk from our house and stays open until 11pm.

There may be Singstar if enough people want to and enough other people don't mind.

[livejournal.com profile] addedentry has spent the last two weeks writing an exhaustingly exhaustive guide to finding our house. If you get lost, phone us (if you don't have a number and want one, ask).

Any other questions that I've failed to pre-empt, ask!

I'm hoping to make it - I'm considering cycling some or all of the way; but this would make me liable to arrive all sweaty & unpleasant. Would there be any chance of borrowing yr shower & a towel on arrival?

borrowing yr shower

So long as you bring it back, sure. :-) Though, er, blimey. Good luck, especially if it's snowing by then as predicted...

Thank you! I really do need to get some more miles in this week...

Plan is to make a decision on the day - I've been feeling a bit under the weather this week & it may in the end make more sense to stay home (& go cycling locally for mileage) :-/ It would be good to come up & see you guys, though!

If you're cycling, I guess that bringing your books to Oxford on Saturday isn't ideal. (For me to bring them from SE16, only for you to cycle them back again, does sound a hint inefficient - although I have heard few environmentalists worry about Book Miles.)

I'm afraid I won't be able to make it up after all :-( Feeling a bit overwhelmed atm & in need of a nice quiet weekend which does not involve gadding about the country...

(Terry: I'll email you about the books, thanks!)

Only just seen yr comment (bah LJ!) -- sorry you couldn't make it, & hope you're feeling better after a QNI or two.

Open to all?

(It's just I would have expected some friends-locking, that's all.)

From: [identity profile] j4.livejournal.com
You're invited, if that's what you mean. :-) But I don't do locked posts. (The last two change-of-address posts and all previous party invite posts were public, too.)

I have your address, but none of the invitation posts contain it (so I've just had to look up your postcode in my PDA to work out a route).

Party o'clock = six in the morning, right?

I am disproportionately amused by the fact that the previous comment is a warning that I may be providing too much information about my whereabouts to the world, while your comment chides me for not providing enough.

If you're still not sure where we are, ask. If you are sure where we are, just don't tell the terrrists or that nasty Peter Files off the internets, okay?

All we'd need to do is find where on that street is totally overflowing with gatecrashers!

Date: 2007-01-22 03:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] j4.livejournal.com
I've never had any gatecrashers before. Civilised and interesting people will probably be allowed to stay; boorish cretins will be turned into sausages for the morning after's fryup. Arrival at the party constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions. Your statutory rights are made of NUTS.

Overflowing with lovely, you mean. Overflowing with lovely.

I'll be there, as will my Image ()partnerwifeyglitterhugsbunnysparkleHORSE (). We won't have had a drink for nearly four weeks.

I'm definitely coming, then.

Owen told me that Kingmaker were reforming IN OUR KITCHEN. Kingmaker! In our kitchen! Imagine!

But when I got there I found that it was all a ploy to get me to go and make the coffee.

Bastard.

If Kingmaker were to get you to make the coffee then what excuse does he use when there's washing up?

"Janet! Janet! It's the second coming! Christ has return, and he's forming a super group with Richard Thompsom and Eliza Carthy RiGHT NOW!"

Oh, and I'll be there. Not sure which of the delightful public transport options I'll choose, but I'll be there.

Despite posting party invitations to Usenet in the past, I've never had anyone crash.

Although that was a few years back. These days I put less of myself on teh Intarwebs.

We are considering it, though being on a course all day may prevent me. If so, too bad - I don't get to see two ace people nearly often enough.

I would love to come but I have to be up reasonably early on Sunday (and in suitably bright-eyed-bushy-tailed state to talk on lunchtime radio for an hour) so I think a jaunt to Oxenforde might be beyond me :(

Date: 2007-01-22 03:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] juggzy.livejournal.com
Erm, I'll be there; I shall try and bring some friends. But I shall also aim for a nightbus home, so I won't be crashing.

Date: 2007-01-22 04:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mirrorshard.livejournal.com
I shall endeavour to be there. I have already promised to be elsewhere in Oxford this Sunday, so would it be possible to book approx. two square feet of floor for the night, as hinted at in your previous post?

Date: 2007-01-23 04:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] j4.livejournal.com
as hinted at

Now I'm confused -- if you've already asked for crashspace then I'm really sorry but I didn't see it! Can probably manage 2 sq ft of space but not much more... it may be a bit of a squeeze I'm afraid.

Date: 2007-01-23 04:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mirrorshard.livejournal.com
Ah, oh dear. Entirely my own fault, I do apologise entirely for misleading you, and for the improper and overly complicated RSVP. I would love to come to yr party, and do not mind being squeezed, but if there is no space then there will be other parties and other times.

Date: 2007-01-27 01:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] j4.livejournal.com
Last-minute crashspace update -- there are 5 people crashing and there are four rooms in which to crash. So if you don't mind that you might be sleeping on the floor in a room with somebody else in, we can probably find room for you. :-)

And if this is too little too late then I'm sorry -- but yes, we're hoping to have other parties :) and you'll be very welcome to those too.

It's not too little at all, and sounds positively paradisiacal compared to some situations I've been in, but I find myself disorganized and under-medicated, not up to travelling today. I do hope you have a lovely party!

Gah. I wanted to come to this, but I had to go to Nottingham at short notice on Friday to look after a poorlygirl, so I stood my clubmates up at short notice, I think clearing off again might be rude, and I may have company myself. Umm. I Will Come To Oxford Soon!

Okay.... I shall see you down there, probably with a bottle of Mr. Gordon's finest mothers' ruin. Would you be able to find room for a half-house-trained northerner who's not too worried about the badgers biting?

Would you be able to find room

Eeek, I didn't realise you were wanting crashspace (I think I read yr comment on the previous post as saying that you were going to be staying down south anyway, so sort of assumed you were staying elsewhere, IYSWIM). Um... I think we're probably struggling-to-fit-people-in already, to be honest. Er, argh. Sorry. :-( Is that going to mean you can't make it, or do you have a backup plan?

Actually, you've done us a bit of a favour there, because it means I can now head back north in The Dead Of Night via Oxford Tube and London, which is a damned sight cheaper than the original tickets I would have bought!

Owen doesn't mention the U1 buses on his page, these would be that ones that people with X5 combined Stagecoach tickets would use. They stop on the bottom of Westminster Way, in the same place as the 4s that turn that way. That's a point, he doesn't mention the fact that some 4s will turn up westminster way.

Sorry I can't make it though.

Yes indeed. I want to strike the balance between comprehensive and overwhelming, but definitely need to mention at least one other service.

Shame you can't be there, but it was good to see you just before New Year, and this will not be the only day we're at home to visitors!

Date: 2007-01-23 12:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] j4.livejournal.com
I want to strike the balance between comprehensive and overwhelming

I think mentioning that some 4s will suddenly go the 'wrong' way just when you think you're nearly there would be useful, though. That's the sort of thing that makes idiots like me really panic when trying to get a bus to a place they don't know.

BTW I notice you also don't offer any instructions for people arriving by helicopter. The top of Elms Parade is probably okay?

Date: 2007-01-23 12:50 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] addedentry.livejournal.com
But surely people can check on the helpful in-bus electronic display? ... oh.

Top of Elms Parade is okay; less sure about Cornmarket.

From: [identity profile] sesquipedality.livejournal.com
Am I being deeply dumb? I see no house number, and the prospect of arriving at Elms Parade and yelling "Oi Janet!" until either you notice me or the police turn up to cart me off for being a public nuisance is unappealing.

Well, I have your mobile number, anyway.

Date: 2007-01-30 11:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] j4.livejournal.com
I am being dumb for not checking comments/email sensibly. We posted the address when we moved, but didn't put it on the directions as well... thought that people would have our address if they were reading our LJs... Er. Glad you found it anyway!
