I got through Confederacy, I don't remember much about it other than lots of unsympathetic characters.

It's a fantastic farce; there is nobody redeemable in the bunch, but to me they all managed to stay in the "i can't wait to see what happens to them next" box. I suspect it might be a cultural issue.

OOI, what sort of "cultural issue" (other than the fact that we're talking about people's reactions to a book, which are kind of by definition a cultural issue...)? I just found the style really grated, & the humour didn't work for me.

The story takes a little while to build up steam. As far as the cultural issue goes, maybe i'm just extrapolating from my own inability to enjoy the Dirk Gently books because they seemed way, way too British in their humor (i nodded off after a few pages in each case).
