j4: (badgers)

I have email in my inbox from Claire Brock with the subject line very-very magic stick.

I really wish that wasn't spam. I wish it was a badger, or maybe just a girl who talks to the badgers, writing to me about real actual magic. Not a computer writing to me about how to make my c0ck bigger ... See, the world in my head is no more loony, but it's nicer, okay?

That's a depressing thing about the modern internet: it's not nearly as weird as it once was. Usenet is still weird, but only in the same way it was twenty years ago. It's like living with a dotty uncle: entertaining initially, but the quirks start to grate after a few years.

You still find it in odd corners. Wikipedia is almost completely uneditable these days, it seems to have invented a new form of government anarchic bureaucracy. But sometimes it's enjoyable. Like when contributors of different nationalities have a flame war over the nationality of some rock in an ocean. For example, here is the "talk page" discussing a page whose topic is the naming dispute surrounding the article called "Sea of Japan".
