Nov. 8th, 2008 11:34 pmAs we stood around in the mud, dark and rain, waiting for the fun to start at the Eynsham fireworks display,
monkeyhands pointed out that it was a bit like being at a festival. So...
Rain and mud failed to dampen spirits tonight at Eynsham Primary School as revellers gathered to watch a dazzling lineup set the night on fire.
There had been hopes that Catherine Wheel would be playing, but if they were, they must have been on before we arrived, and to be honest I wouldn't have seen them over the heads of the surprisingly large (but good-natured) crowd. Roman Candle did a short and enjoyable set towards the start of the evening, and previous unknowns Serpent gave a couple of energetic and dynamic performances, packed with their trademark innovative sound effects. Fireworks favourites The Rockets were on excellent form, playing several exuberant sets to an excited crowd, but the real stars of the evening were headliners Explosions in the sky — for most, the point of the festival — who played for a good half-hour to applause and cries of delight from an appreciative audience.
