It's a tried and tested technology in which all the bugs have long since been ironed out, and it has all the functionality I require; it's easy to use 'anytime, anywhere'; & it's the only reliable archive medium we've invented so far.

I've just been reminded of The Domesday Project. Which came up because the search software it used was the forerunner (via a complete rewrite in a different language, albeit by the same author) of the system I'm release-managing today. That probably says something about the endurance of ideas beyond the media they are committed to.
