Hello Cambridge

I'll be in Cambridge next Saturday (5th June) for a party, & if possible I'd like to make a long weekend of it, i.e. come over on the morning of Friday 4th (or maybe even Thursday night -- hey, does the Carlton still happen on Thursdays?) and stay till Sunday afternoon.

So, with apologies for doing this as a big impersonal request, does anybody:

a) know of a cheap B&B on the north-ish side of Cambridge, or
b) have a spare bed for some/any/all of Thurs/Fri/Sat nights?

(addedentry will be joining me on the Saturday, so we will both need somewhere to stay on the Saturday night.)

I haven't been to Cambridge for far too long. Will be trying to meet up with literally everybody[*] (including several people who aren't on LJ, people I used to work with, & people I haven't spoken to for over a year). I can't see how this can possibly turn into a complete (dis)organisational nightmare where I end up running round like a mad badger & still managing to upset people by not seeing them all, no no, not at all. :-}

I can't help with the B&B (other than noting that there are a load on chesterton road - google maps is probably your friend), but in case you didn't already know, beware: that's Strawberry Fair day, which has been cancelled this year, but there is talk of unofficial gatherings and there are rumours about troublemakers. In particular, addedentry should expect the police to be out in force on Saturday - bag searches at Cam station sort of thing.

Yes, the Carlton still happens on Thursdays.

Also, yes, I've got a spare bed, but for the moment it's only a single one (which was not my intention when I set up the spare room, but silly house design turned out to get in the way), so if you get a better offer for the Saturday then I'd recommend going with it.

Do mad badgers run round in a particularly distinctive way? :-)

Thank you - no offence intended to your bed but I did get a better offer. :) And I'm afraid I won't be able to make the Thursday after all now -- hope to see you on the Saturday anyway though?

Have you ever seen a badger run? Their bottoms bounce up and down in a particularly peculiar way. So I'd imagine a mad badger would do that only more so. I haven't actually seen an actual mad badger though, to the best of my knowledge. ("Wild? I was livid!")

We have a double futon in the study to which you are welcome for any or all of the weekend. (Hazard warning: I am up and out of the house by 8am Friday, Charles is often awake by 7am, and though we are working on "be quiet, people are asleep", it's not really guaranteed.)

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner! If you're still willing (and if james_r won't be offended by me turning down his offer!), please could we bagsy your futon for Friday and Saturday nights? (That is, it'll be just me on Friday night & Owen too on Saturday night.) Will gladly recompense you with e.g. beer or nearest local equivalent. :)

Argh, I have said I will have lunch with ex-colleagues on Friday. Since I am _not_ in work I could have two lunches, depending how flexible your lunchbreak is... :-) Alternatively, there's after-work on Friday, or Owen & I could both meet up with you on Sunday? Sunday lunch?

Cheap-ish B&B - there are single rooms at the Hamilton Lodge, which is at the Elizabeth Way end of Chesterton Road, usually at £31 a night, which is as cheap as you'll do in Cam, I'd guess. Don't think they're en suite, mind. Can't remember how much their doubles are.
