Sorry I've been quiet on LJ for so long. As some of you already know, I've been kind of busy (and consequently staggeringly tired) making something. It's still very small, but I'm still working on it non-stop (whether I like it or not) & it should be making its debut some time around the end of March next year...

we don't know what it is yet but it's definitely not a badger

Answers to the most common FAQs (in no particular order):

1. I'm at about 19 weeks now.
2. We don't know what sex it is yet, but we are happy to find out (if/when they can tell), & generally have no objection to telling other people, unless they are only asking so they know whether to knit stuff in pastel-pink or pastel-blue (answer: no thanks).
3. Yes, I did have "morning sickness", perhaps better known as "all the bloody time sickness", lots of it, for about 2 months, it has been utterly miserable & has only really been getting any better over the last week or so (I still feel really grotty in the mornings, & often feel queasy at other times).
3b. YES I HAVE TRIED PEPPERMINT TEA/GINGER NUTS/WHATEVER AND NO IT DOESN'T HELP.
4. My current plan is to stay at work for as long as possible, take as much paid maternity leave as I'm entitled to afterwards, & then return to work (assuming there are still any jobs left in HE at all by then).
5. Yes I am sure it's [livejournal.com profile] addedentry's, you cheeky bugger.

I'm happy to answer any other questions asked in good faith or good humour (but feeding trolls while pregnant can harm the baby).

BTW, I did want to tell people face-to-face or at least email-to-email where possible, but I realised that the combination of my normal lack-of-organisation and current shatteredness are making it even more difficult than usual to find the round tuits and mental togetherness for social interaction, and I was starting to feel like I couldn't say anything else on LJ until my readers knew about this, and it was sort of becoming the elephant in the room (or should that be "the elephant in the womb"?). So, um, apologies to those of you who feel this is a bit of an impersonal announcement, but it's probably because I haven't seen you for ages, which is nothing personal but more to do with having not felt up to eating/drinking/thinking/going out/staying awake very much, and hopefully now that that's getting a bit better (before it gets worse again, I guess...) I'll be able to start catching up with people a bit.

So... yeah!

[livejournal.com profile] addedentry isn't er, nervous, is he? First-time fathers often are...

If he is nervous, then he's hiding it very well & actively denying it when asked, so there's not much I can do about it! :-}

Also, I reckon I have more claim on being nervous, being as how I'm the one whose body will inevitably get ripped to shreds. Not looking forward to that bit AT ALL.

And congratulations, too, of course. The picture says Trim Harlow at the top right---funny choice of name, if you ask me. I suppose it's suitably gender-neutral for the moment, though if it grows up to be a pulp fiction detective you'll only have yourselves to blame.

Wow! And yay! Double yay, because when I saw Jon recently he said you'd not been well and then hastily added 'but that story's not mine to tell' and wouldn't say ANYTHING further about why and I thought you might have some debilitating illness and was actually going to send you a card hoping you got better soon, so - hurrah for you not having an illness! Except that all-the-time-sickness sounds absolutely rotten, obviously, and I'm sorry it's been so rough on you.

But much rejoicing for the creation of Little McKnight!

Aww, I'm sorry if you were worried, & if I'd known he'd said that I'd've totally just told you, & to be honest I wouldn't've minded Jon telling you (but I think I wasn't specific enough with him about who-I-minded-and-didn't-mind and I sort of did want to tell people personally, so, eh, sorry). And thank you. :)

Hooray!

I assume those Japanese spammers are congratulating you too.

I will probably be in Oxford on the 15th, 16th and 17th learning how to overthrow capitalism, and I was thinking it would be great to meet up with you and Owen (I assume the UCU is going to allow me out of Wolfson College at least some of the time).

Hurrah! It would be great to meet up. Please let us know how to overthrow capitalism, too. The only thing UCU has managed to overthrow so far AFAICT is my inbox.

I went to put "nja in Oxford" in my calendar, only to find that [livejournal.com profile] addedentry-who-doesn't-do-LJ-any-more-yeah-right had already done so. 8-) So we should definitely be around then.
