what on earth do you do for a living that means you find out about this stuff? I thought I was the one that got to revel in archane information all day...

I work for an electronic publishing company. The above citation is from Early English Books Online, a web database of scanned pre-1700 texts. There's some really bizarre stuff in there. (Mostly I'm just checking citations and ID numbers and tedious stuff like that, but I can't help reading things as well.)

Anyway, what do you do that lets you "revel in arcane information all day"? I thought you were a maths teacher!

I am, but they teach weird bits of maths over here - like graph theory at age 14. Not that I mind, but it means I keep hunting down things I did at college to recall what the extensions are (just for my own entertainment, you understand). Plus I have a book called the dictionary of curious and interesting numbers (39 is the first number to be simultaneously interesting and uninteresting...) which I just have to keep reading because it's cool. maths good, maths gooooood *smile*
