Great to see
acronym's University Challenge performance on Monday -- the first time I've actually seen anybody I knew on UC! It was quite strange seeing him sitting there next to me and sitting there on the UC team on the TV... obviously quite a strange experience for him as well. ("Is that really what I look like?" -- yes, it is, and yes, you look great. :) I'm looking forward to the next installment in the New Year.
(I still vaguely regret never being on University Challenge, but I'm not going to go to the length of taking an OU degree just so I can be on it.)
Also interesting to see
lusercop's fire-poi routines, though I felt a bit guilty watching it for so long as I thought the evening was supposed to be
acronym's show -- at one point he seemed to feel rather upstaged by
lusercop, which I think is a shame. Two very different skills, and as somebody who possesses neither of them I think they're both very impressive. (And while Paxman's sarcasm can be pretty vicious I think UC is still probably less dangerous than whirling flaming kevlar ropes around your head...)
[This was the mostly factual LJ entry. Musing to follow, if I get time/energy for it.]

Various former colleagues from astrophysics have been on TV for other reasons, mostly astrophysics-related (weird to see a guy with whom you once shared an office considered a world authority in astrophysics), but one as a Blake's 7 fan.
I wonder which TV show we can get
