Happy talking talking happy talk

The last few days seem to have been mostly spent driving, drinking and talking (though obviously not all three at once).
Today we went over to Rugby for my friend Sylvia's housewarming and engagement party. I've been "bestest friends" with her for over a decade but not actually seen very much of her in the last couple of years as we've both being doing such different stuff in different places -- so it was lovely to see her for slightly more than just a flying visit. It was also good to meet her fiancé, Nathan, and his family -- he seems to be a great bloke and I hope they'll be really happy together. They've done wonders with their house already, too, despite only having moved in a couple of months ago; the dining room looks like something out of Ideal Home, all spacious and gorgeous in purple and white.
I'd agonised (okay, only briefly agonised) about what to get Sylvia and Nathan as a housewarming present, and eventually decided to go for the silly option -- a candyfloss machine. :-) Siôn didn't look convinced, but I'm glad I went with my own instincts, because Sylvia was delighted with it, and we had great fun turning spoonfuls of sugar into real candyfloss, just like you get from the fair.
And (sorry, more wibbling about driving) I drove all the way to Rugby! Not on my own, but it was the first time I'd driven on a motorway. I'd expected my reaction to motorway driving to be "eek, scary!" but in the event of it, my reaction was more like "oh, is this it? It's just like the previous hour's worth of driving along the A14."
I'd intended to have a quiet night in on Friday, but at the last minute decided to go to drinks at the Six Bells with people from work. Very small gathering in the end, consisting of just Richard (my new boss), Tristan, Hannah (who used to work for us but left about a year ago now) and Hannah's boyfriend Ceri. What we lacked in numbers we made up for in volume (of both conversation and drink), and had a hilarious evening talking about such diverse subjects as Buddhism, threesomes, babies, porn, and how to have sex with dolphins. Hrm. Not the kind of conversation you'd expect to have with your co-workers ... I blame Hannah, who at times can make me look shy and innocent. :-)
Thursday night was our usual pub night, and we ended up at the Castle for a change as CUSFS had gone elsewhere (we usually try not to end up in the same pub as them). Fun evening of talking to
lnr,
ewx,
simont,
lark_ascending,
mobbsy, Tony, and Becky.
[Sometimes I feel like I'm writing the minutes of a meeting when I do these accounts of Who Was Where When...]
And finally, I've only just realised I never said anything about Wednesday night... possibly just because I didn't want to sound too smug about a lovely evening with Ellie. But I think I'd rather risk sounding a little smug than risk offending her by looking like I didn't want to say anything about it. So, um ... Mmmmm. :-)

...a lovely evening with Ellie...
I was going to suggest that you shouldn't worry about rubbing other people's noses in it, but then my thoughts descended somewhat. ;) I'll get me coat...

Date: 2003-01-25 01:10 pm (UTC)It's not a bad drive over Npton way when the roads aren't busy though. Lots of opportunity to listen to loud gothic rock and veer all over the lanes changing the CD :)
(yes, I am trying to get out of driving everyone to Whitby already ;)
