Whittling

I've left the 'challengequiz' community -- I thought it would be fun, and I rather conceitedly thought that I had a moderate amount of general knowledge, but in fact (surprise, surprise) it's just yet another area where I'm thoroughly useless. I can rarely answer more than 2 questions on any of the quizzes, and it just depresses me. I guess I should have known better.

Slowly trying to whittle away all the things that just make me miserable. I guess eventually I'll whittle my life out of existence.

Hugs. I was just about to set a lit-rat-yure one, too. Still, it isn't a friends-only community, so you can still enter any you like the look of.

I used to have a "Whittle" icon, you know

Mmm - I certainly know what you're getting at. I'm happy not to be particularly good at most games, but when it comes to quizzes, it somehow feels more irritating and almost more shameful not to be particularly good at them.

To date, I've taken part in two challengequiz quizzes, came last in one of them and probably about last in the other. On almost all of the ones I haven't entered, I've only been able to get a very small number (sometimes less than 2) of questions right. However, the community userinfo does mention that most of the quizzes are expected to have winning scores of about half, and considering the calibre of the regular winners, I'm happy to be a very small fish in... well, in a small pond filled with fish of considerable magnitude. I'm also planning a Thoroughly Evil Game Show Quiz which will have just enough accessible-looking questions to hook the punters in and on which nobody will be able to actually score one-third marks.

There will always be a place for you on my University-Challenge-like game Buzzer Quiz (http://www.buzzerquiz.com/) team (probably titled "We got one!") if you're interested and if there are ever enough people in the same place at the same time as one of the tournaments. Which could have been this weekend for their "trash bowl" pop culture quiz, but wasn't.

For what it's worth I don't answer half the quizzes on there because I only know one or two (or fewer) of the answers, and there's only a couple of them that I have done decently well at. I'm struggling quite badly at [livejournal.com profile] sion_a's `easy quiz'. I think the concept of everyone in there being a brainbox is pretty much an illusion.

Apologies if my geek quizzes have contributed to this illusion. For the record, the lowest marks on them were 1 out of 32 and 2 out of 21 respectively.

But not to worry. There's clearly no point in continuing with something that makes you miserable, for whatever reason.
