Was supposed to be going to London tonight for uk.misc meet, but now I know [livejournal.com profile] hoiho can't make it I just can't face doing all the train-related faff. I guess I was just being greedy hoping to see him again so soon after the weekend. And I feel guilty for letting everybody else down. :-( I bet he did make it to London in the end, too; that'd serve me right for being crap.

Anyway, I thought that not-going-to-London would mean I'd be able to go and catch up with J-P after all while he's in Cambridge, but what was originally going to be "meet up in the pub" has been turned into a major outing to Bury St Edmunds, so it'd mean just as much train faff, or else getting a lift with somebody & thus having no way of getting back when I feel too shattered and miserable to stand any more socialising.

And I have period pains, and I feel really weepy and headachey, and generally guilty about being too mopey and crap to do anything.

Nope. Just escaped from a long long phone meeting with the customer that caused the panic, and I'm shattered.

So I'm of to buy some soap and bog roll (there's *nothing* in the flat), and then to sleep.

And then sleep some more, and come back tomorrow with my loins girded.

the customer that caused the panic

So what actually happened? It all sounded like a complete nightmare but I didn't really understand what the nature of the panic was.

soap and bog roll

Aw, you should've said when you borrowed sleeping bag etc., I'm sure we could've spared a couple of bogrolls and a bar of soap...

So what actually happened? It all sounded like a complete nightmare but I didn't really understand what the nature of the panic was.

My predecessor, who has moved sideways into customer support, had promised this customer some software. Which is a little broken. Which he was fixing and building. But he hadn't. In the meantime, my team had redesigned it so it wasn't broken. He gave the design document and our timescales to the customer. Who flipped, because they wanted software NOW to test their board, and it hadn't been explained to them that the old, fixed, software was going to be there Real Soon Now. So this got reflected back to the salesdroid, who fed it up to the CEO, who went mental... So we've spent the day pouring oil on troubled waters, and smoothing ruffled feathers. As a result, we're sending my predecessor out to Florida over the weekend, to be fed to the alligators. No, sorry, that's just my dream; he's going to talk to the customer...

And no-one's been fired. Yet...

You should be so lucky.

Er... I'm off to Florida this weekend. Should I be worried?

Sounds like a tangled mess of miscommunication... but hopefully on the way to being smoothed over now. And what have alligators ever done to make you want to mistreat them like that, eh?

You should be so lucky.

I should! I should!

Sorry to hear things are like that - I very much sympathise with the party/transport/socialising badness as I often feel that way too. It's not just you, it's not weird, and it's generally (IMO) sensible to pull out of things if you know you are not going to enjoy yourself and are unlikely to be good company for others. If I were close enough I'd offer a real hug, but from here it'll have to be a virtual one. *hug* Hope stuff improves soon.
