I feel like I desperately need a break from the office. And I also feel like I need food.

Now I have to convince myself a) that I don't really need food, and b) that if I have a break from the office it must be to somewhere with no shops.

Am doing one of those get-paid-a-fiver-for-ticking-boxes psychology test things tomorrow lunchtime. I need to find more of those.

Are you on the Volunteer Panel at the MRC CBU (http://www.mrc-cbu.ac.uk) yet? This is a great source of tick-boxes-for-money work once you get on the regular-volunteer list. They also pay you even more if you let them take photos of your brain.

If I had any reliable way of getting them to you, I would grab a volunteer pack from my Mum and give it to you... But since not, you could try just ringing up and asking for one (01223 355294) I s'pose...

No, I'm not... (btw, your link doesn't work!).

I'd love to have photos taken of my brain but I suspect they wouldn't want me for those sorts of things. Last time I volunteered for one I had to back down because they said I had to have never ever taken a single sniff of any controlled substance EVER in my life, and, well. Um. It was horribly awkward, because they didn't seem to believe I could possibly be really admitting to having done something so horrific, but I felt I had to tell them, and they kept saying things like "Really, only illegal drugs count", and I was there (at work!) going "Um, really, believe me, I can't do this experiment in the light of what you've told me".

I've avoided doing the proper GlaxoWhatsits medical research things for the same reason, though they're apparently very lucrative; can't face going through all the "sorry, you're UNCLEAN" stuff. Ticky-box stuff doesn't have any of that, at least.

I don't seem to remember them asking me that (and given I've eaten controlled-brownies before, I wouldn't imagine they would have let me do it either..) so it may have just been for that individual experiment. And they certainly do plenty of ticky-box experiments (I did once get paid to sit in a comfy armchair and watch TV for an hour or so).

Link should have been www.mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk, sorry, done from memory of my mum's e-mail address...

I know you have reasons, but you can't convince yourself of a) on a regular basis. Tis bad for you. Would send you sandwiches if that were possible. Have a virtual sandwich in the meantime, and a big slobbery snotty kiss from [livejournal.com profile] smallclanger. If that doesn't put you off food, nothing will. ;-)

I gave up in the end and bought five avocados for a pound on the market. And two bananas for 19p. Both have vitamins and stuff and are nice, and five avocados will do for two or three lunches. But now I feel crap for spending money. :-(

I should have made lunch at home but there was nothing in except some weird bread that [livejournal.com profile] sion_a made which I'm not really very keen on, and by the time I dragged myself out of bed there wasn't really time to make lunch. I was going to buy potatoes and make bucketfuls of potato salad, but I ended up nearly in tears at the market because I wasn't sure that the potatoes there were the cheapest available, and I couldn't face walking to Sainsburys only to find that the ones on the market were cheaper, and I thought that having bought the avocados and bananas (which increasingly feels like a stupid thing to buy, but I needed to eat something, and avocado usually cheers me up, and they were pretty good value) I shouldn't buy anything else, and now I don't know what I'm going to have for lunch tomorrow or the rest of the week.

And I was hoping to at least have something to look forward to at the weekend because I was going to see [livejournal.com profile] hoiho but he's got Stuff To Do (tidying etc.) so he doesn't want me there. :-( But of course now I worry that the real reason he doesn't want me there is just that I'm too miserable at the moment, nobody wants a miserable girlfriend. :-(

What's with the not-food? If it's cash-lackingness, well, I am unconvinced that that's a good place to save money... I bring my own sandwiches/pasta salad/whatever in as I can't afford 3 quid for a bloody sandwich, but *not* eating tends to lead to disaster...

Have fun with the ticky boxes!

http://www.ciao.co.uk/ has surveys you get paid for doing. We're not talking loadsamoney, but even a quid here and there can help.
