j4: (books)

I have a stack of prehistoric computing books which I have rescued from untimely incineration. Unfortunately, I'm not really sure if they are likely to be of any use/interest to anybody... if they're potentially desirable objects I'd quite like to make a couple of quid out of them on eeeeeeeBay, as sort of compensation for lugging the buggers home on my bike (they were heavy!), but if they're only going to make pennies I'd be happy to just release them into the wild. Any opinions?

I believe 'The Mighty Micro' is something of a cult item, so you might get a bob or two for it.

Yes, it's the only one I'd heard of.

It's about the only one I'd be tempted to keep :) but my parents (who knew the author) already have a copy.

BTW happy belated birthday! I'm sorry I didn't realise when it was in time to, er, not be belated about it.

Thank you! I was away from LJ all yesterday daytime, anyway, so it matters not. (Yes, this was the worst thing about getting unexpectedly sent to a conference.)

If they're free (or swap for a glass or two) I'll take the Vonk, Kantaris, Davis&Hughes, Thompson, and maybe the Williams&Walmsley

I'm not sure if they're free yet. Depends if I think I can get any money for them! :)

Also I'm sort of trying to work out if they might've been saleable (since they were originally being thrown out on the grounds that they weren't, & I thought that was unfair). So, out of interest, would you have paid money for them if you'd seen them for sale e.g. in a charity shop?

Will bear in mind that they have a potential good home to go to, though...

No. Well, not more than 25p each. I'd like them in the same way I check out manuals being thrown out of our place.

I'd like the Thompson and the Turner.

But would you pay for them? :) (I'm trying to work out if it's worth eBaying them or if I should just bring 'em to the pub on Thursday some time...)

(Yes I am a mercenary little badger, why do you ask?)

Yes I am a mercenary little badger

I now have the image of a badger in an red eye mask, with a dagger between its teeth and a bandoleer slung about its person.

I'd be interested in Russell, Davis & Hughes, Thompson, and Snow; for those, I'd pay maybe a few quid each,

For the Turner, I'd pay up to a tenner, but then, I'm a Turner fanboy...

That reminds me, I have a copy of "Compilers: Principles, Techniques and Tools" (Aho, Sethi & Ullman) here which I believe was intended for you... (it certainly wasn't intended for me!)

I've heard of Horstmann, but that's because the current (3rd) edition of Computing Concepts with C++ Essentials was the basic (not BASIC) textbook for the C++ part of my MSc last year ...
