... must come to an end. So I find myself unfortunately back in the windswept flatlands now after a lovely holiday which I may write about at greater length some day. (Summary: company, food, scenery and weather all excellent.)

Will probably never catch up with LiveJournal, so if anything interesting's happened that I ought to know about, please let me know by email (or comment here).

Mmm, yes please! Ate lots of tuna while I was away. And anchovies. I have finally seen the light about anchovies.

mm, yes

Did you have a slice of the anchovy pissaladi$egrave;re at the market...?

I didn't, no! (Plenty of anchovies in the salades niçoises that I had, though.) All the pissaladière I saw (in markets, shops, cafes, whatever) looked a bit limp and not as tempting as other local delicacies. Next time, maybe.

In the meantime, it's off to read my Elizabeth David books...

We seemed to be constantly eating stuff containing blette, which I think is a kind of Swiss chard and (according to Nicoise sister-in-law) a local delicacy which can be included in both sweet and savoury dishes. It tasted of nothing. Every time we went into a restaurant one of the adventurous English gourmets would be prodding his food saying "what's this green stuff then?" and Christel would roll her eyes and say "blette, of course".
