I saw someone who looked like
someone I was thinking of
in the queue for the pasty shop,
& it reminded me of this
which bears repeating:

Vinegar

sometimes
i feel like a priest
in a fish & chip queue
quietly thinking
as the vinegar runs through
how nice it would be
to buy supper for two

Weirdly enough, until I saw who actually wrote it, I was hearing it as a Laurie Anderson monologue.

I can't really get my head round Laurie Anderson using something as uniquely British as fish and chips.
