I saw someone who looked like
someone I was thinking of
in the queue for the pasty shop,
& it reminded me of this
which bears repeating:
Vinegar

sometimes
i feel like a priest
in a fish & chip queue
quietly thinking
as the vinegar runs through
how nice it would be
to buy supper for two

Weirdly enough, until I saw who actually wrote it, I was hearing it as a Laurie Anderson monologue.

Pasty-faced is better than having pasties on your nipples any day of the week.

Have you tried the latter?

That statement was made on grounds of aesthetics rather than comfort; we're not talking about my nipples here. I've witnessed enough of the things to be sure that they do nothing for me in general and really would not suit [livejournal.com profile] j4 in particular.

And there I was namechecking Roger McGough in my comments earlier today... must be something in the zeitgeist.

I'd buy fish & chips with you any time!

I think they're very silly! I haven't seen anybody that they suit, and I doubt if I'd be the exception.

As for comfort, I dunno, but instinct tells me NO! DON'T GLUE THINGS TO YOUR TITS!

Fishermen call the weighted stick that they use to kill the fish they catch a "priest".

Probably not something McGough had in mind, but interesting all the same.

Awww, thank you hon. :-)
It would have to be from FISHCOTHEQUE though! I totally love that name.

The single image I have of pasties is the scene in The Graduate where Ben woos a girl by taking her to a strip club containing a dancer who can rotate her tassels in contrary directions. You'd be impressed, too.

But you're right, I probably would be impressed.

I'm getting the feeling that we're not talking about the Cornish food product here.

Well, the pasty shop I referred to originally is a purveyor of the Cornish delicacy; but "pasties" are also those little round things that exotic dancers and suchlike have over their nipples, often with tassels on.

Having said that, I wouldn't really want to glue a Cornish pasty to my tits either.

Did you not see that episode of Two Pints Of Lager then?
It works[1] for me!

I can't really get my head round Laurie Anderson using something as uniquely British as fish and chips.

You know how weird my head is, though.

But it's still horribly easy to hear it in her voice over the music to this (http://www.musicsonglyrics.com/L/laurieandersonlyrics/laurieandersontalknormallyrics.htm).

*lightbulb moment*

Suddenly this whole thread makes a lot more sense. I thought you guys were just being intensely surreal.

I've seen the counter-rotation thing done in reality. It is impressive. Though I have to admit, one of the thoughts that went through my head was "if we'd had this for a demonstration of simple harmonic motion, physics classes would have been a lot more interesting."

I can be intensely surreal, but nipples aren't usually in the forefront of my mind when so doing.

The take-home message from this thread is; go see The Graduate. It's brilliant.

"That'll be cod and chips twice."
"I heard you the first time."
